What began with one person has become a growing community of volunteers who give their time, skills and generosity each year.
FeedingLDN began in 2018 with a simple desire to make a difference. Our founder had always been passionate about serving others, embracing every opportunity to volunteer. After reflecting on homelessness in London, she wanted to make a lasting impact and reached out to a London homeless charity to ask how she could help. She was invited to volunteer at one of their hostels over Christmas.
Rather than volunteer alone, she invited friends and family to join her and launched a small GoFundMe campaign to help provide Christmas dinner for the residents. The hope was simply to make Christmas a little more special — but the response exceeded all expectations. More than 15 volunteers signed up, and over £700 was raised through the generosity of family, friends and supporters. The additional funding made it possible to do even more: alongside the hostel dinner, volunteers put together care packages filled with essential items for people sleeping rough across London.
On Christmas Eve 2018, volunteers spent the day preparing and serving meals at the hostel, leaving ingredients behind so cooking could continue on Christmas Day. Later that evening, they headed out across London to distribute care packages and spend time with people experiencing homelessness.
It wasn't simply about providing food. It was about conversation, dignity and reminding people they were seen.
The following year, the hostel reached out to invite the team back. It wasn't only the meal the residents remembered — it was the conversations, the time volunteers spent with them, and the genuine human connection. That encouragement became the foundation of FeedingLDN.
Today, FeedingLDN remains entirely volunteer-led and community-funded — made possible by volunteers, donors, partners and supporters who believe that everyone deserves compassion, dignity and hope.
FeedingLDN is rooted in faith — the belief that every person carries God-given dignity, and that compassion is something you do, not just feel. Every meal, every care package, every conversation is an act of love.
The first outreach — Christmas dinner at a London hostel, and care packages across the city.
Every Christmas Eve since — apart from 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic — volunteers have come together to prepare meals, assemble care packages and support people experiencing homelessness across London.
FeedingLDN expanded beyond Christmas, delivering its first Easter and Summer outreach programmes — the Summer Outreach in partnership with The Young Africa Centre (YAC), extending our reach across London.
